UPON THEIR ALTAR LAID

Now upon an altar sweet as any maid
Hast thou at last been laid

A thousand candles set alight by those who prayed
That as you take uncharted flight no longer need you be afraid

While safe escort from like sister spirits made
Weeps to see you also were betrayed


As sister-daughter-mother-spouse on altar/pedestal displayed
When as woman whole from such daunting perch you willful strayed
Thy sweet spirit did they roughen then and cruel abrade
Til by their envy-jealous-fear were you slayed
Then as victim once again to their awful orthodoxy made
And on their needful altar lain fresh arrayed
To impress on any other by your courage maybe swayed
That in your place, you really should have stayed.
